US business leader urges closer ties with China

According to China Daily, Thomas Donohue, president and CEO of the US Chamber of Commerce, said that the United States should advance economic ties with China to reduce the adversarial nature of the relationship between the world’s two largest economies.    

“Our country should make a major effort to attract global investors. Foreign investment already supports 5 million direct jobs and millions of indirect jobs. We need to negotiate more bilateral investment treaties … India and China should be high on that list.” Donohue said during his annual State of American Business speech on Thursday.  Continue reading

“Made In China” is not so evil

Most people considered that “Made in China” hits the local industry in many countries, especially American. But a new report from the San Francisco Federal Reserve Board (via Paul Kedrosky) shows that this isn’t actually the case. A full 88.5% of US consumer spending is spent goods and services made in the US, while China gets only 2.7% of American consumer dollars. Beijing heating goes solar

Beijing authorities plan to promote a solar water-heating system and a more energy-efficient charging method for central heating for the coming winter to save energy and cut emissions.

New residential and public buildings in Beijing should install a central hot water system that uses heat from industrial production or solar panels, according to a draft plan released on Monday by the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. Continue reading

China conducts its first jet biofuel trial

China conducted its first demonstration flight powered partly by a biofuel on Friday, possibly paving the way for future biofuel use on commercial flights in the country.

The one-hour trial used 13.1 tons of biofuel blend – half conventional jet fuel and half China-grown, jatropha-based biofuel – to power one of four engines on an Air China 747-400 jet. Continue reading
